Class Participation
Requirements
All classes require that dogs have no aggression issues. If you have a reactive dog,
please address this when you contact us. Through a private consultation(s) InJoy
should be able to determine whether group classes are a viable option for your dog.
The welfare of our students is a top priority.

Each class level must meet all the previous class’s requirements, in
addition to the new ones listed.

All agility students must bring a crate to class.

Do you meet the minimum requirements to participate in:

Positive Associations & Sniff It Out
Your dog must be manageable. You may need to set up private lesson(s) if your dog
is too unruly or too stimulated by the classroom environment to focus. In an ideal
world, dogs would enter the classroom with some solid behaviors to fall back on, so
that the dog can work on something familiar amidst the environmental challenges
present. You'll need to build an upright hula hoop.
How to Learn, Teach, & Play
Dogs without previous schooling must first complete Level 1: Positive Associations.
So much groundwork is laid in that 1st 6-week session that handlers would need to
have an amount of dog training comprehension (& experience) before InJoy would
consider placing you directly in this class. You'll need to get a plywood board 3x3.
More Components
You will need to start building a few jumps to practice with. Also, you are strongly
advised to rent weave training equipment. Weaving is a skill that is probably
impossible to learn practicing only during class.
Pieces of the Agility Picture
Dogs must be performing behaviors listed under the class descriptions for Levels 1-3
happily. By no means are we looking for a polished, finished version of these
behaviors, but this class will build in complexity, and InJoy will not allow dogs to be
asked to chain behaviors together until the components are understood.
Intermediate Level Classes
Dogs participating in intermediate level classes need to understand parallel handling,
front & rear crosses, positional cues, a clear release behavior, have spatial awareness
of the jump and understand how to use their body over it, start-line training, send to
target, be comfort with obstacle movement, “Hit the deck” Downs, focus, motivation,
and reliable recall. Handlers need to understand verbal cues, what their contact
behavior is (& have a training strategy for it), know how to raise & lower criteria, and
have a positive attitude.
Competition Classes
Dogs have experience on all obstacles, and are able to perform 20 obstacles
sequences. Dogs are performing 12 weave poles and enjoy working on course. Start-
line stays, solid table drops with stay, and some sort of strategy for hitting contacts,
are critical for a dog to be able to focus on working the whole course. Handlers should
know what motivates their dog and provide reinforcement, especially when dogs
overcome challenges.

*Set up/Teardown of equipment is necessary for many classes. All class
members are required to participate.
