Why is it important for my dog to be highly successful?
We all know how much fun it is to “get it” versus how incredibly de-motivating
it can be to be told we got it “wrong”, especially when followed by the word
again. It’s enough to take all the wind out of your sails and make you not even
want to try. At best, you’ll try again a few times, but likely much more
tentatively, hesitant to make another mistake. Wouldn’t you prefer to move
forward with the zest of success, knowing that even if you misstep, your
teammate will step in and lend a hand, breaking any overwhelming task into
totally doable pieces? It’s no wonder, then, that a dog that experiences
frequent success in training becomes a confident dog. A confident dog finds
training to be much more enjoyable, is better equipped to handle stress, and
tends to be more willing to try new things. A confident dog knows it can rely on
its human for assistance whenever it’s in need, and turns to the handler for
guidance/direction (rather than resorting to its own devices). At
InJoyDogTraining, we seek to develop proactive handlers, directing the dog to
appropriate behavior, managing the environment when necessary, and provide
the dog with the necessary information so that the dog may charge ahead
joyfully and confidently.
